HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 cc68-9W
93. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that at a recent sale of imported Landrace pigs the average price per pig was more than£900; and whether he will permit a further importation, under suitable safeguards, in view of the keen demand for these animals.

Sir T. Dugdale

Yes. As regards the second part of the Question the recent importation of Swedish landrace pigs was intended to allow the suitability of the breed to be tested under British conditions. I do not propose to consider making an order under the Diseases of Animals Act, 1950, permitting a further import until there has been an opportunity to observe the results of this importation.
