HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c90W
144. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Education the number of school children now receiving meals in schools within the Essex County Council area compared with the number a year ago; how many of these are making full payments; and what financial economy has been effected.

Miss Horsbrugh

98,539 children in maintained and assisted schools under the Essex County Council received school dinners on a day in June, 1953, compared with 111,896 in June, 1952. Full payment was made for 91,945 of the meals supplied on a day in June, 1953, and 102,762 of those supplied on a day in June, 1952. I am unable to say what financial economy has been effected by the local education authority.
