HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 cc89-90W
141. Miss Lee

asked the Minister of Education, in the event of 10 or more residents appealing against the transfer of school buildings, now used for other purposes, to form part of a comprehensive school, who decides the issue; and on what grounds.

Miss Horsbrugh

Where a proposal of this kind involves either the enlargement or the discontinuance of a maintained school, the local education authority concerned must give public notice of their proposal under Section 13 of the Education Act, 1944. When the statutory period of two months' notice has expired it becomes my duty to decide whether or not to approve the proposal, after taking into account both the grounds on which it is made and any objections that may have been submitted in accordance with the Act.
