HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c70W
Brigadier Medlicott

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is aware of the number of instances where retailers of tomatoes have been omitting the correct marking of imported tomatoes and have allowed them to be sold as though they were home produced; and if he will, again, bring this matter to the notice of local authorities and remind them of the need for the appropriate Regulations to be enforced in the interests of home producers.

Sir T. Dugdale

I am aware that retailers in some districts have exposed imported tomatoes for sale this season without a proper indication of origin. Local authorities were reminded last year of the marking Orders now in operation and the attention of traders in tomatoes was drawn this year to the requirements of the Tomato Marking Order. I do not propose to circularise local authorities again at present.
