HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c76W
113. Mr. Skeffington

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider adopting the use of tape recording apparatus, with suitable safeguards, when statements of confessions are being taken by the Metropolitan Police.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I have considered this proposal. There are many practical objections, and I can find no sufficient grounds to warrant its adoption.
