§ 99. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he intends to take on the recommendation of the Gowers Committee.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeHer Majesty's Government have under consideration the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Capital Punishment, but I am not yet in a position to make any statement on this subject.
§ 105. Mr. Grimondasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will take steps to suspend the death penalty until the report of the Gowers Committee has been discussed and a decision taken on action in regard to it.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeNo. The publication of the Report of the Royal Commission affords no grounds to support this proposal and I am not prepared to anticipate a decision which could properly be taken only by Parliament.
