§ 69. Mr. Reevesasked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations whether he has had his attention drawn to the Report of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry into the racial question in South Africa appointed by the General Assembly; and what instructions have been given to our representative at the United Nations Organisation in regard to the proposals, including the suggestion of a round-table conference of all races in South Africa, to consider ways of peacefully solving her racial problems.

§ Mr. J. FosterI am aware that the Report of the United Nations Commission on the racial situation in the Union of South Africa has been presented. As they have repeatedly made clear, the United Kingdom Government are of opinion that the subject lies essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of the South African Government, and thus outside the competence of the United Nations. The United Kingdom delegate to the United Nations is fully informed of the United Kingdom attitude.
