§ 68. Mr. Wyattasked the Minister of Education whether she will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to consider how the public schools can be integrated into the educational system of the State on a non-fee-paying basis.
§ Mr. PickthornNo. My right hon. Friend is not in favour of any form of integration which would deprive the independent schools of their position which is recognised by the Education Acts of 1944 and 1948. I would also remind the hon. Member that the question of developing and extending the association between the public schools and the general educational system of the country, including the payment of fees from public funds, was fully considered by the Fleming Committee in 1944.
