HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 c155W
2. Mr. Hylton-Foster

asked the Minister of Health if he will make a statement on the question, raised by letter of 11th March, 1953, from the town clerk of York to his Department, of the designation of joint-user hospitals vested in the local authority for the detention pursuant to Section 20 of the Lunacy Act, 1890, of persons alleged to be of unsound mind.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I am informed that the immediate local problem is under discussion between officers of the regional hospital board and the city council. I am not aware of any serious general difficulties, and I can hold out no hope of legislation which would be needed to enable the council's proposal to be adopted.
