HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 cc155-6W
23. Mr. Hale

asked the Minister of Education for what reason the paid employment of children's supervisors under the Oldham Education Committee has been reduced from two hours a day to one hour and three-quarters a day; whether she is aware that similar steps have been taken over all the North of England; and what directives her Department have given in this matter.

Miss Horsbrugh

I have no information on the first two parts of the Question, because the appointment and conditions of service of supervisory assistants in school dining rooms is a matter for the local education authorities concerned. No directives have been issued by my Department in regard to hours of work, but I have asked the Oldham Authority to review their expenditure on overheads in the school meals service, because it was rather high.
