HC Deb 04 May 1953 vol 515 c3W
57. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Transport how many accidents, fatal and non-fatal, took place last year; in how many, and in what proportion, dogs were involved in the cause; and what information he has as to how many of these were caused by licensed and unlicensed or stray dogs.

Mr. Braithwaite

In 1952 there were 171,757 personal injury road accidents involving 4,706 deaths and 203,306 non-fatal casualties. Dogs in the carriageway were held to be the primary cause of 2,596, or 1½ per cent., of these accidents. I regret that the other information asked for is not available.
