HC Deb 31 March 1953 vol 513 cc128-9W
63. Sir W. Smithers

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that, after the last war, deputy lieutenants of counties were requested to, and did in fact, buy field-service dress with khaki cap; why they have now been required by his dress regulations to purchase new blue caps, costing 10 guineas; and if he will issue the necessary instruction to enable deputy lieutenants in possession of khaki caps to continue to wear them with Service dress.

Mr. J. R. H. Hutchison

The coloured forage cap with peak was, before the war, prescribed for wear with Service dress uniform for all officers of the Lieutenancy. At the beginning of the war instructions were given for the khaki cap to be worn during the war but officers who already had the coloured forage cap could continue to wear it. In 1949 reversion to the coloured forage cap which forms an essential part of the Lieutenancy No. 1 dress was approved. My right hon. Friend is looking into the suggestion made in the last part of the Question.
