§ Sir T. Mooreasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the present position in regard to the shortage of certificated teachers in Scottish schools; and whether any improvement has taken place during the past year.
§ Mr. J. StuartIn paragraph 13 of the report on the supply of teachers in Scotland (Cmd. 8721) it is estimated that at 1st October, 1951, there was a shortage of 2,329 certificated teachers. Between that date and 1st October, 1952, though76W the number of certificated teachers employed rose by 583, the estimated shortage increased by 158. The following is a table indicating how the estimates were made.
