§ Mr. Hamiltonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) the national weekly decrease in the number of school meals consumed since the recent price increase was imposed; and what these figures represent as percentages of the total number of meals consumed in each of the last two weeks in February, 1953;
(2) the total number of school meals consumed in each week of February, 1953, in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dundee and the counties of Fife, Lanark, Ayrshire and Midlothian, respectively; and what were the corresponding figures for each of the first two weeks in March, 1953.
§ Mr. J. StuartI have already asked education authorities for a special return of the number of children taking meals in April in addition to the census which will be taken in October. They are at present engaged in bringing the new arrangements for remission of charges into operation, and I should not feel justified in asking them to undertake the additional work which would be necessary to enable me to answer these questions.
