asked the Minister of Education the number of children from five to 15 years of age attending schools under her jurisdiction to the nearest available date; and the comparative number for the same date in 1951 and 1952.

Exact figures are not yet available, but I estimate that the figure for maintained and assisted schools for January, 1953, was 5,874,000 compared with 5,624,000 in January, 1952, and 5,419,000 in January, 1951.
