asked the Minister of Health what special provision he is making for the capital needs of the mental hospitals in the South-West Regional Board area for the coming year.

Mr. Iain Macleod

The total net capital allocation to the South-West Regional Hospital Board for 1953–54 is just under £350,000. The distribution between hospitals is the responsibility of the Regional Board who are proposing to allocate 31 per cent. to mental and mental deficiency hospitals.

35. Mr. Short

asked the Minister of Health what capital allocation has been made to the Newcastle Regional Hospital Board for the year 1953–54; and how this compares with the previous year.

The Board have been authorised to spend £420,800 on capital works in the year 1953–54. This compares with an original allocation of £384,000 for 1952–53, but it has later been possible to authorise an expenditure of £472,760 for the year.
