HC Deb 18 March 1953 vol 513 c8W
66. Brigadier Clarke

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Defence if he will ensure secrecy to deserters who surrender under the present amnesty, so as to encourage those who do not wish to have their identity disclosed.

Mr. Birch

Men claiming the benefit of the amnesty must be identified by the Service authorities, in order that they may receive the treatment promised in the statement by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister in this House on 23rd February. No deliberate publicity will, however, be given to their names.
