HC Deb 13 March 1953 vol 512 c154W
Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Food whether the regulations governing the preparation and sale of home-canned fruits, covering such things as the strength of the syrup, and labelling of the tin, apply equally to foreign canned fruits offered for sale in this country.

Major Lloyd George

There is no direct control over the syrup density of canned fruits, whether home produced or imported. Labels of imported canned fruits packed for retail sale are required to disclose the name and address of the packer, the name of the product and the ingredients; home-canned fruit is exempted from the last mentioned requirement for the time being.
