HC Deb 11 March 1953 vol 512 cc117-8W
17. Mr. Spence

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General to what extent additional quantities of Scottish home-grown timber can be used by his Department: and whether he will encourage a policy of stockpiling provided prices and specifications are suitable.

Mr. Gammans

The Post Office is always ready to take home-grown timber for telegraph poles, provided prices and specifications are reasonable, and, as I have already stated, we have taken all such timber offered in recent years. Negotiations are in progress with the Forestry Commission and timber merchants about the purchase, for use as poles, of trees blown down in the recent unfortunate gales in Scotland.
