HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 c73W
82. Major Anstruther-Gray

asked the Minister of Works how many Scottish firms of soap manufacturers are included in the list of firms from whom soap supplies are purchased by his Department: and whether he will give their names and the most recent date upon which an order of this sort was placed with a Scottish firm.

Mr. Eccles

Nine Scottish soap manufacturers are regularly invited to tender for purchases made by my Department. Tenders were last invited on 24th May, 1952, for a 12 months' period contract of an estimated value of £35,000, of which £4,500 was awarded to a Scottish firm. It is contrary to Government practice to disclose the names of contractors.
