HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 cc74-5W
Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the hon. Member for Finchley, as representing the Church Commissioners, whether he will defer the closing of Holy Trinity Church, Lambeth, for a further period.

Sir J. Crowder

The proposal was considered in May, 1951, by the independent Special Committee set up under the Reorganisation Areas Measure, 1944, for the purpose of hearing appeals of this nature. This tribunal rejected the appeal. Every effort has been made by the bishop of the diocese and by the Commissioners to settle the matter by agreement. This has failed and the Church Commissioners therefore have decided that they cannot extend the period of deferment of the closing of Holy Trinity, Lambeth.
