§ Mr. Jannerasked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he is aware that the revocation of the Fuel (Inspection) Order, 1943, is causing great concern to the Leicester City Council as that revocation and the withdrawal of warrants issued under Defence Regulation 55AA leaves the council without powers to exercise effective control over the weight of coke sold; and what new arrangements he is making so that the council can exercise effective control in this regard.
§ Mr. Geoffrey LloydThe Fuel (Inspection) Order is no longer needed for the specific purposes for which it was introduced, and I would not have been justified in retaining it for its incidental usefulness in controlling the weight of coke sold. I understand that my right hon. Friend the President of the Board of Trade, is consulting the local authority, trade and other interests on the recommendations of the Committee on Weights and Measures Legislation which concern short weight in the sale of coke.
