asked the Minister of Transport what the expenditure by his Department will be on roads in the seven crofting counties during 1953.

Mr. Braithwaite

During the financial year 1953–54 my right hon. Friend expects to make grants towards the maintenance and minor improvement of classified roads in these counties to the amount of about £425,000; and to spend about £260,000 on similar work on trunk roads. In addition his expenditure on major improvements may amount to some £15,000.
