Harrisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he is aware of the desire of certain fire authorities to obtain an improvement in the rates of compensation payable to Auxiliary Fire Service and Civil Defence volunteers; and whether he is yet prepared to make provision for something more than that payable under the National Insurance (Industrial Injuries) Act, 1946, as amended.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeA scheme has now been prepared for a measure of "sick pay" in cases where members of the Auxiliary Fire Service or the Civil Defence Corps suffer loss of earnings as a result of injuries sustained in the course of their duties. The local authority associations concerned have been asked for their comments on the scheme, and I will make a further statement as soon as these comments have been received and considered.
