HC Deb 09 June 1953 vol 516 c8W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is aware that the British Broadcasting Corporation have recently turned down an offer of £1 million for the lease of their television transmitters during the hours when they are not being used for their television service; and if he will bear this in mind when considering their application for the extra £2 million of the licence revenue.

Mr. Gammans

The Government's policy on this matter remains as stated in the White Paper on Broadcasting (Cmd. 8550). The Corporation is forbidden by its Licence and Agreement to receive money in this way without my noble Friend's consent in writing, and this has not been sought.
