§ 89. Mr. H. Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that on 1st July, 1953, at Hailsham police court, Mr. James Percival Moore, of 69, Maresfield Road, Brighton, who was convicted of an offence of exceeding the speed limit, was wrongly stated by the police to have had a criminal record; and whether he will grant appropriate compensation to Mr. Moore.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeI understand that Mr. Moore challenged the list of convictions read out by a police officer, and that the chairman of the bench subsequently made it clear that the court, in assessing the fine, had paid no regard to the convictions which had been read out in court. The chief constable regrets that this mistake was made; but, as the chairman made clear, it did not in any way affect the decision of the court, and I can find no grounds for further action on my part.
