HC Deb 30 July 1953 vol 518 cc181-2W
53 and 54. Mr. Holt

asked the President of the Board of Trade (1) what alterations have been made in the revenue duties on rayon staple fibre since 1945; and when they took place;

(2) since the original revenue duty imposed on rayon staple fibre under the Finance Act, 1925, has now merely become a protective duty and one on a raw material of growing importance to the cotton trade, if he will take steps for its removal.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The duty on rayon staple fibre has been 9d. per lb. weight since 1945, except between 14th June and 31st December, 1951, when this material was temporarily admitted without payment of duty. Since the duty was reimposed, I have received no representations from any organised body of users for its removal. If any such representations I were made, they would of course be carefully considered.
