81. Mr. Dudley Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many acres in Devonshire have qualified for the plouging grant in the past year.

19,355 acres for the grant of £5 per acre, and 2,442 acres for the grant of £10 per acre.

82. Mr. Dudley Williams

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many calves there were on farms in Devonshire at the last census date; and how many there were in 1951.

The provisional results of the June, 1953, census indicate that there were 95,000 calves on farms in Devonshire. The corresponding figure for 1951 was 89,000.

asked the Minister of Agriculture what quantity of lime has been applied in Devonshire for each of the last two years.

Sir T. Dugdale

Farmers in Devon applied about 150,000 tons of lime during the last twelve months and 136,000 tons during the corresponding period in the previous year.
