HC Deb 28 July 1953 vol 518 c135W
123. Mr. McKay

asked the Secretary of State for War if he is aware that 22634767 Alfred Bell, D.C.R.E., at Derna, North Africa, fell on a cable and was electrocuted; and if he will make a statement on the circumstances of this soldier's death.

Mr. Head

I am awaiting a full report from the court of inquiry which assembled on the day following Sapper Bell's death. I can, however, say that he was employed with the Royal Engineers Works Services on a task at the Army Kinema Corporation Cinema at Derna and that during these duties on 15th July he was found lying across a 320 volt electric overhead cable on the roof of the cinema. After first-aid treatment by a medical officer he was removed to the British Station Hospital where, most regrettably, he died three hours later.
