HC Deb 27 July 1953 vol 518 c86W
79. Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing

asked the Minister of Transport why there are still police notices closing the river side of the Embankment roadway to vehicle traffic, except for buses; and why have the buses been given rights not allowed to other payers of Road Fund licences.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

Pending reconstruction of the carriageway, which is due to begin in September, it is not considered necessary to alter present traffic arrangements which are for the benefit of all concerned.

80. Mr. C. I. Orr-Ewing

asked the Minister of Transport when work will start on lifting the tramlines on the Embankment and making the whole roadway available to normal vehicle traffic.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The local authorities concerned expect to start this work towards the end of September.
