HC Deb 27 July 1953 vol 518 c91W
86. Mr. Nally

asked the Minister of Supply what action he proposes to take to increase the production of steel plate; and if he will state the additional yearly tonnage increase that will be necessary to meet consumer demand.

91. Mr. F. Willey

asked the Minister of Supply what action he proposes to take in view of the report of the Iron and Steel Consumers' Council that adequate steps are not being taken to ensure that in future years supplies of plates will meet the increased demand.

Mr. Sandys

In the Report referred to, the Consumers' Council drew attention to the fact that there were differences of opinion within industry in regard to the volume of future demand and recommended that the problem should be referred to the Iron and Steel Board for examination. I have drawn the special attention of the Board to this part of the Council's report.
