HC Deb 23 July 1953 vol 518 c61W
71. Mr. Bartley

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of pigs which have been affected by swine fever this year; the number which have been lost; and the number which have recovered from the disease.

Mr. Nugent

No figures are available of the number of pigs affected by swine fever or of the number that recover. This year there have been 1,868 outbreaks in Great Britain and about 13,000 deaths from the disease have so far been recorded. This excludes deaths that have occurred on premises where movement restrictions are still in force, figures for which are not yet available.
