§ Sir A. Bossomasked the Assistant Postmaster-General what special steps he is taking to help farmers in isolated districts who are anxious to have a telephone installed, as the lack of one greatly hampers their work.
§ Mr. GammansWhile the provision of telephone service for farmers is given high priority, we are unable, because of our limited resources, to meet individual applications requiring a disproportionate amount of material and labour. For such cases we have introduced a self-help scheme, under which farmers provide and maintain part of the line themselves and in return are allowed a rebate in rental.
