HC Deb 02 July 1953 vol 517 c43W
77. Dr. King

asked the Minister of Education whether she will state, for the latest available date, the number of children over the age of 15 who were receiving secondary education by voluntarily staying an extra year in secondary modern schools.

Mr. Pickthorn

In January, 1952, there were in secondary modern schools 19,967 pupils voluntarily staying beyond the compulsory school age. The available statistics do not enable me to say how many of these intended to stay for at least an extra year.
