Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if he is aware of the pollution of rivers which is taking place as a result of the effusion of sewage from towns and cities which is affecting the health of the people; and if he will take steps to encourage local authorities to adopt alternative methods of disposing of their sewage.
§ Mr. H. MacmillanWhilst it is true that some tidal river estuaries are polluted by the discharge of sewage, I have no evidence of any danger to public health. If the hon. Member has however any instances in mind, I will have them investigated immediately.
