HC Deb 02 July 1953 vol 517 cc44-5W
84. Mr. Albu

asked the Minister of Supply whether he has considered the recommendation in the Twelfth Report of the Select Committee on Estimates of last Session, that the junior posts of the non-industrial grade in the Royal Ordnance factories and in the inspectorates should be exempted from any order limiting recruitment of civil servants; and what his decision is.

Mr. Low

As was stated in the Ministry's reply to the Select Committee published in its Ninth Report, the principle involved is now being considered interdepartmentally. The present approved complements of the Royal Ordnance Factories and the Armaments Inspection Department take account of the reasons underlying the Committee's recommendation. The complements are, in fact, in excess of present strengths and thus there is in force no order or other administrative device restricting recruitment to the junior non-industrial grades.
