Mr. Lewis

asked the Minister of National Insurance how much unemployment benefit was paid in each of the years from 1945 until the latest stated date, in the county borough of West Ham.

Mr. Peake

Unemployment benefit paid at the Canning Town and Stratford employment exchanges in 1951 and 1952 amounted to approximately £45,000 and £81,500 respectively. The amount for 1952 included payments at the increased rates payable from 24th July, 1952. Information as to the amounts paid at individual employment exchanges in earlier years is not now available.
