§ Miss HorsbrughI am not in a position to calculate the percentages asked for in the Question because the returns which I receive from local education authorities do not enable me to assess how much Exchequer grant is attracted by the expenditure of authorities in this particular part of the field of further education.

§ Miss HorsbrughI have made no proposals for a 10 per cent. reduction in grants to local education authorities or other bodies that maintain residential colleges of adult education. I cannot say exactly what my grants will be for these colleges in the coming year.
§ Mr. Chetwyndasked the Minister of Education details of the yearly grants made to the University Council for Adult Education and the Workers' Educational Association for each year from 1945.
§ Miss HorsbrughI do not make grants to the Universities Council for Adult Education. My grants for liberal adult education are made to the individual university extra-mural departments and the Workers' Educational Association districts which together with certain smaller bodies are the responsible bodies for classes in adult education. The following table gives details of my grants to these bodies for the financial years 1945–52.
