HC Deb 18 February 1953 vol 511 cc140-1W
84. Mr. Longden

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what action Her Majesty's Government intend to take as a result of the interference with the British ship s.s. "Incharran" in Far Eastern waters.

Mr. Nutting

Reports of the Master of the "Incharran" indicate that it was not possible to identify the attacker. A spokesman of the Chinese Nationalist authorities announced that Nationalist naval units had been sent to investigate as soon as the "Incharran's" wireless distress signal was intercepted. This step was apparently taken by the Nationalist authorities on their own initiative. Her Majesty's Consul at Tamsui has been instructed to inquire from the Provincial Government the result of the investigation.
