asked the Minister of Education (1) when she contemplates bringing forward legislation to amend the Teachers' (Superannuation) Act, 1925;

(2) what proposals she is at present considering for the alteration of the teachers' rate of contribution to superannuation.

I am not yet in a position to make a statement about the amendment of the Teachers' (Superannuation) Acts, including the rate of contribution provided for therein.

asked the Minister of Education how the teachers' rate of contribution to superannuation compares with the rates of other public servants who contribute to similar pension schemes under Government arrangements.

The rate of contribution for teachers under the Teachers' (Superannuation) Acts is 5 per cent. Comparable rates in other public services are -local government officers 6 per cent., except for certain officers to whom the Local Government and Other Officers Superannuation Act, 1922, applied, who pay 5 per cent.; officers in the National Health Service, 6 per cent.; firemen, 5 per cent.; policemen, 5 per cent.; policewomen, 4½ per cent.
