asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, when framing his Budget, he will devise specific measures to arrest the decline in the purchasing power of the £ sterling.

My right hon. Friend cannot anticipate his Budget statement, but I can assure my hon. Friend that maintaining the strength and stability of thefsterling is one of the principal objects of the Government's economic policy.
