Mr. Edelman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his attention has been drawn to the resolution, a copy of which has been sent to him, of the Joint Emergency Motor Committee, representing the Coventry and Birmingham District Committees of the Confederation of Shipbuilding and Engineering Unions and certain Midland Members of Parliament, calling on the Government to take action to deal with the crisis in the motor industry and asking for a reduction in Purchase Tax on motor vehicles in order to relieve current difficulties; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The answer to the first part of this Question is "Yes." On the second part of the Question, I have nothing to add to my right hon. Friend's reply to the hon. Member for Aston (Mr. Wyatt) on 4th February.
