Mr. Vaneasked the Minister of Education whether her attention has been drawn to a decision by Durham County Council refusing the request of Durham County Territorial Association to allow members of a Cadet Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, about 50 boys. to be absent from school in order to 238W form a guard of honour on the occasion of a visit by Field-Marshal Montgomery: and whether she will send a circular to all local authorities advising them in future to grant such requests where they are clearly reasonable and likely to encourage interest in the local Cadet Force.
§ Miss HorsbrughYes, but in view of the answer that I gave on 22nd January to the hon. and gallant Member for Lewes (Major Beamish) I do not think it necessary to send a circular on this matter to all local education authorities. They are already aware that I consider it important that they should give what assistance they can to cadet units.
