HC Deb 05 February 1953 vol 510 cc237-8W
Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Education whether her attention has been drawn to a decision by Durham County Council refusing the request of Durham County Territorial Association to allow members of a Cadet Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry, about 50 boys. to be absent from school in order to form a guard of honour on the occasion of a visit by Field-Marshal Montgomery: and whether she will send a circular to all local authorities advising them in future to grant such requests where they are clearly reasonable and likely to encourage interest in the local Cadet Force.

Miss Horsbrugh

Yes, but in view of the answer that I gave on 22nd January to the hon. and gallant Member for Lewes (Major Beamish) I do not think it necessary to send a circular on this matter to all local education authorities. They are already aware that I consider it important that they should give what assistance they can to cadet units.
