Piers, Toscaig and Ullapool

Mr. J. MacLeod

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether it is proposed to construct a pier at Toscaig, or Applecross, as proposed by the Highland Advisory Panel in their 1949 list of essential piers.

The Department of Agriculture are preparing an engineering report on a site for a pier at Toscaig. This report will be sent to the county council, who would be the authority responsible for the erection of a pier.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will make a statement on the proposed extension to Ullapool Pier.

I have reported to the Development Commissioners on the application by the Ullapool Pier Trustees for assistance from the Development Fund to extend the pier, and I shall communicate with my hon. Friend when a decision has been reached.
