Mr. Lewis

asked the President of the Board of Trade the number of his staff who were in receipt of an income of £1,000 per annum in 1946; how many of these have not received an increase in their salary since this date; and what was the average increase in the salaries of those that have had increases.

The answer to the first part of the Question is 287. With regard to the other parts, I have nothing to add to the answer given to the hon. Member by my hon. Friend the Financial Secretary to the Treasury on 29th January in relation to the Civil Service in general.
