HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 cc98-9W
102. Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he will consider the utilisation of seaweed deposits on the beaches of the country for sale to various agricultural interests, dried and milled or composted, having regard to the menace existing if they are left untouched and to the valuable iodine properties and its fertiliser uses in pulverised form.

Sir T. Dugdale

It would be uneconomic to collect seaweed on any large scale and process it for agricultural purposes. My Department has issued an advisory leaflet dealing with the use of seaweed as a manure, and I am sending a copy to the hon. Member.
