HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c89W
Mrs. White

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Commonwealth Relations what decisions have been taken by Her Majesty's Government concerning the recommendations of the Gaitskell mission to Bechuanaland.

Mr. J. Foster

My noble Friend has decided that the potentialities for beef production of the western Kalahari area of the Bechuanaland Protectorate should be put to practical test. Certain essential preliminary measures are already in hand. Of these the most important is a survey to ascertain the volume and distribution of water supplies, upon the outcome of which plans for development must depend.
