HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c82W
58. Mr. Snow

asked the Minister of Education whether her attention has been drawn to the action of the Council of Ministers in France which, on 18th November, decided to set up a consultative committee for bilingualism, consisting of the interested Ministers, of the teaching profession, of trade unions and of the Press; and whether she will put forward a similar proposal in this country.

Miss Horsbrugh

I have seen reports of the proposal to set up this committee in France. I welcome the increase which is taking place in the teaching of modern languages but I do not consider that the establishment of a similar committee in this country would be justified.
