HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 cc64-5W
104. Mrs. White

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation to make a statement on the future of Queensferry Bridge.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The long-term scheme is to construct a by-pass to Queensferry with a new bridge across the River Dee, but meanwhile I have arranged for consulting engineers to investigate the possibility of altering the present bridge in such a way as to provide accommodation for cyclists clear of the present carriageway and so relieve congestion. This, however, even if practicable, may prove very costly and I am afraid I cannot commit myself to it at the present stage.
