HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 c70W
116. Mr. Callaghan

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation if he is yet in a position to make a statement on the Report of the Committee on the Prevention of Pollution of the Sea by Oil.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

I have already announced my intention of giving effect to one of the main recommendations of the committee by inviting other maritime countries to a conference next April to discuss the international aspects of the problem of oil pollution. The invitations to the conference are in course of despatch.

I am glad to be able to inform the House that I also accept the other recommendations of the committee in principle. Some of them involve legislation and this will be introduced as soon as possible after the international conference.
